Air Travel

Daniel Oduber International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste, Costa Rica.  “LIR” is the second major airport in Costa Rica and the closest international airport to Tamarindo/Langosta. The airport is new (built in 2016), clean and modern.

The major airlines that serve this airport from the US are:

Alaska Airlines, United, American Airlines, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, JetBlue

From the US, you can fly direct to LIR from the following cities:

Atlanta, Austin, BWI, Boston, Charlotte, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, Newark, New York, Orlando and San Francisco.

But of course, you can get there from wherever you are via connecting flights.

Check out current fares here.

In the low season, there are 5 flights a day into and out of LIR.  In the busy season, there are 15 or more.

Don’t forget to make sure your passport is up to date!

From the Airport

If you want to rent a car, we recommend ADOBE Rental Car.

OR

If you choose to avoid the expense of a rental car you can take an air conditioned shuttle from the airport right to the front door of the villa.

We recommend Tamarindo Transfers and Tours. You can order a private or shared shuttle.  All shared shuttles have a minimum of 3 passengers.  It is $25 per person but if you are the only one on the shuttle, you will pay $75 ($25 x 3) We always utilize this shuttle because there are usually at least two of us and it has been affordable and convenient and stress free.  You can book online at the link above prior to your arrival.  Have cash available to pay the driver.  US cash works so no need to exchange any money at the airport.

You can also use this shuttle service to get you to excursions as well, outside of Tamarindo such as ziplining or volcanos.  Check out all their destinations and prices on their website.  They will pick you up right at the villa!

Getting around Langosta/Tamarindo

If you didn’t rent a car, it is really fun to rent a golf cart during your visit!  You can walk over to Waterman’s, a few minute walk from the villa and book one at the counter or hop online and reserve one in advance from Paradise Cart Rentals or Golf Carts Tamarindo .  There are golf carts that carry 4 or 6 people and are electric or gas.  We have a plug in available at the villa if you rent an electric golf cart during your visit.

Communicating and Info while you're here

Everyone in Costa Rica uses WhatsApp.  Be sure to download it on your phone to make communicating with local business easier.

Our local co-hosts Claudia and Samuel live in the neighborhood and can help out when needed.  They can answer questions you have about the area or help you plan excursions, shuttles, make reservations, find you a private chef or anything else you and your crew may need while staying in the villa.
